The brief

This concept positions Kanda Dental as a Horinouchi, Tokyo practice serving patients from across Asia and Europe, business travellers, residents, and expats who need care they can trust in an unfamiliar system. The site direction needs to communicate clinical confidence to a Japanese audience and approachable modernity to an international one, simultaneously.

They didn't want a clinic. They wanted a practice.

Concept direction

A bilingual site direction: Japanese primary, English secondary, with provider bios, treatment information, clinic hours, treatment pages, booking entry points, and a multilingual access guide. The concept focuses on reducing uncertainty before booking.

Design decisions

Gold as a trust signal. In Japanese aesthetics, gold (#C5A065) carries warmth and precision, not luxury in the Western sense, but craft and care. It anchors every interactive element: hover states, CTA buttons, the fine line that separates navigation items.

Cinzel + Noto Serif JP. Cinzel brings a quiet authority to the English type, medical without being cold. Noto Serif JP in light weight makes the Japanese body copy feel refined and unhurried. Together they hold a register between clinical and hospitality.

Paper-and-sumi palette. Off-white (#F5F3EF) and near-black (#111111) reference traditional Japanese materials, washi paper, ink. The effect is calm and legible, never sterile.

Photography: people over procedures. The visual direction favors real-feeling interiors, clean light, and visible care. No stock-photo smiles. No floating teeth. Patients book when they believe the place is credible.

Why it improves conversions

Booking intent in healthcare is driven by trust before feature comparison. The concept builds that trust through photography direction, language accessibility, and a booking flow that feels low-friction. It is a design study, not a reported production outcome.
