Better HN
privacy.
Last updated · May 19, 2026
A local reading interface for Hacker News.
Access
Better HN accesses Hacker News pages so it can replace the interface, render feeds and comments, apply themes, and support keyboard-first reading and writing flows.
The extension may read the Hacker News page content you are viewing and the HN form tokens needed to submit, vote, save, hide, or comment through Hacker News itself.
Use
Better HN uses Hacker News page data locally in your browser to rebuild the reading experience, sort and filter stories, render comment threads, and submit actions you choose to perform on Hacker News.
Storage
Better HN does not send your browsing or Hacker News activity to hane.studio. Settings such as theme, view mode, font size, and layout preferences are stored through Chrome storage so they can persist across reloads.
Third parties
Better HN talks directly to news.ycombinator.com for Hacker News content and actions. It does not use hane.studio servers, analytics, advertising services, or payment providers.
Retention
Better HN does not maintain a hane.studio account, server-side profile, or server-side history. Local settings remain in Chrome storage until you change them, reset extension data, or uninstall the extension.
No selling of data
This extension does not sell your data and shows no ads.
